The Winklmoos-Steinplatte ski zone is located 12 kms (7.5 miles) from our hotel, next to Reit im Winkl. The ski slopes are at the Austrian-German border and are accessible from both countries. The parking lot at Seegatterl has a capacity of 1800 cars and can be accessed by car or scheduled buses from our hotel.
While Steinplatte offers one of the Tirol’s most modern ski trail and lift networks, its counterpart on the German side, Winklmoos, offers a compelling alternative. It is favored by beginners due to its gentle slopes and its unbelievably affordable € 20/day ski pass. Long gone are buses and uphill hikes to the lodge. A modern ski lift with cabins for 8 people and a moving walkway between the lodge and the ski trails have made accessibility significantly easier since 2009.

A vacation in the Bavarian Alps to many of our friends means skiing in the winter season.

You will be hard pressed to find a better place than ours for this purpose. Due to a special microclimate, this region is considered to be especially rich in snow. In case you would like to try or practice cross country skiing, a sport that is increasing in popularity, some well-kept tracks start right outside our hotel and take you through the spectacular valley.

To enjoy a brief 1 to 2 hour downhill skiing experience or if you simply want to teach your children to ski, you can use the ski lifts of Balsberg in town.

If, on the other hand, you would like to devote an entire day to skiing, we recommend the Bavarian-Tirol Winklmoosalm-Steinplatte. Although the area, with its altitude of 1700 m is considered a low skiing zone, due to the above mentioned special microclimate, it is covered in snow well into April.
